Brandon Masele is an electro dancer and runner-up in the world electro championship. Laura Defretin is a hip-hop dancer. They are known in the world of battles under the pseudonyms Miel and Nala. They had been performing separately, working with the likes of Christine and the Queens, Stromae and Angèle, until a chance meeting in a dance studio over a few minutes’ show. Their meeting had the catalytic effect of wanting to share a piece of their history between electro and hip-hop cultures. A duo of extreme sensitivity, they dance a fusional, symbiotic relationship, shaken by the desire to rediscover themselves through dance. Between them, they create a distinctive language, a body language unique to their choreographic universe, a body language that takes electro dance and hip-hop to a wider audience. The creation of their company in 2016 was the next logical step after this encounter. Their integration in 2017 into the incubator for urban dance artists (IADU), set up by La Villette, marked a major turning point in their ascent and recognition as choreographers.
To date, MazelFreten has created seven works including Rave Lucid (2022). These shows have been performed in France and abroad. On 26 July 2024, they choreographed the Obscurité tableau for the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, marking a turning point in their choreographic careers.
